True to the pictures on the product page, it does leave a pattern on walls that are nearby. The amount of light that it provides is great. I can easily see this on the outdoor table with the patio lights off to just provide that right amount of glow when a bright light isn't needed. I will most likely leave the solar light on the floor because I am afraid that the petals would increase the chances of the wind knocking it down from the table. The solar light is not light weight, but we can get strong winds once in a while. The petals can be adjusted easily to help make the lotus more symmetrical. As I stated earlier, my glass ball was damaged. There is one large crack that starts from the top and goes to the bottom where the opening is. The brim is chipped and I felt my hand scrape on it right away when I was examining it. The crack that comes from the chipped area is visible, but not from far away. Fortunately, the chipped part will remain covered until the rechargeable battery needs replacement. Having a rechargeable battery is a huge plus. Also, the charge life on this light is fantastic. I let it charge for 2 days before I turned it on at 7pm. I brought it inside my house to monitor it so that I could estimate the amount of time before it turned off. It was about 6:15 am when I was leaving for work and it was still on! Yes, it was dim, but I was impressed that it was still on. The past several days have been cloudy so it has not been nearly as bright or lasted as long as it did on a full charge. During these cloudy days, I've noticed an average of 5-6 hours on and it starts to dim more around 3-4 hours. I still think the charge life is impressive as I have owned some solar lights that did not last as long, even after sunny days. This would make a wonderful gift, but I do recommend inspecting the glass ball before giving it to the recipient if possible.
